As somebody who strongly prefers grilling with lump charcoal over anything else, I was always curious about the hype behind jealous devil. However, I could never find it near me and so I kept using whatever brands my local stores were carrying at the time. Now that I've tried this, it will be very hard to go back to a different charcoal again."Lump" charcoal, to me, should be good sized chunks of wood charcoal that will actually burn for a while and at a good temperature. Half of the lump charcoals out there are 50%+ tiny pieces that burn up in what feels like minutes. This makes it challenging for a longer cook or to even attain hotter cooking temperatures.Jealous devil truly is large chunks and they burn for quite a while! Probably one of the most notable things with jealous devil, is how HOT the charcoal burns. The flames are nearly white and the heat that comes off of the charcoal is incredible. That being said, you do need to be careful if you are trying to maintain a low temperature to grill with as this charcoal heats up quick and puts off some high heat. Since switching charcoals, I have never switched back (and honestly probably never will) and I've thoroughly enjoyed cooking with this new charcoal. Highly highly recommend this if you have not tried it!

This is my first time buying jealous devil and I will say this stuff lives up to the legend. Not only is it just a great lump charcoal the price is fantastic. It’s comparable and better than other briquettes. I would buy this again in a heartbeat because it just lasts so long, I think I am a new recruit to this lump charcoal.

This lump charcoal is perfect in my PK 300 smoker/grill. I've now used it both for fast/hot grilling and slow smoking true BBQ. Size of chunks is perfect for my uses. Lights easy and burns steady. I'll purchase another bag when this bag is gone. Worth every penny considering the fact that a big 35 pound bag of it is delivered to my front door by Amazon. I love it.

This charcoal is great, it ignites easy, burns long, and overall just great. The only down side is that some pieces are super large (6in-8in) and have a hard time fitting into my charcoal chimney. Thankfully I can split them with tools I have but not everyone will be able to, so those pieces will be almost unusable for them.

I’ve tried a few lump charcoals over the years but I keep coming back and buying Jealous Devil. By far the best brand I’ve found. They are larger pieces (which I like) but not massive like I’ve found in other brands. I’ve also never found anything other than charcoal in my bag unlike some other brands. Great product at a reasonable price. You wont be disappointed.

We switched to this brand based on other reviews and glad we did. The chunks are medium size, no really small or really large, which is good. There is also no smell, unlike some that have chemical smell. I would say it burns medium hot... not as hot as some others I have used. I've had to use a bit more to get the heat closer to the grill for searing steaks. This is not an issue as I use it in a ceramic grill and can shut it off easily by closing the air vents. I've also used it for 12 hour cooks for brisket and one load lasted the entire time, which was a pleasant surprise. Very pleased with this purchase.

Lets be honest, when using a charcoal grill, we need fuel that lasts, can be reused when not fully spent and allows for the maximum temps at the longest intervals. Jealous Devil lump does all of that. This coal burns super hot, lasts longer than other lumps, and costs much less than the vast majority of competitors. What I also loved was that the lumps were not tiny. The lumps were substantial. Additionally, the lumps did not spark or cause any issues, they just burned efficiently, effectively and did not add additional flavors not wanted from a cook. The lump allowed the wood chunks to do their job while they did theirs. I highly recommend this lump to any coal burning griller. Dont be fooled by higher cost lump. This stuff is amazing at a fraction of the cost of others. Just look at YouTube for evaluations to see how this coal stacks up.
