Absolutely stunning that Jealous Devil would attempt to pass this charcoal off a binchotan. It isn't made using the proper process. It isn't made from the proper wood. It doesn't even look like binchotan. Plus, real binchotan will ring like wind chimes if you tap two pieces together. This charcoal just thuds. Avoid this at all costs.

It has been a year of random grilling and have been getting good results! The char oal does last a lot longer than briquettes and the smoke seems cleaner. I salvage the used charcoals when I am done grilling by suffocating it with water and reuse them for the next time with no problem. The charcoal does get messy and can make fingers black, but easy to wash with soap and water. There are a lot of variable pieces. I use the small pieces to fill in gaps between the larger pieces.

Value for money, smoke free, big large pieces. Lasts for a really long time and for a variety of different meats and vegetables. Performs like a champ!

Seemed to make just as much ash as any other lump charcoal out there. Heat was high, but Tough to start though. Also prone to uneven heat across a more vented yakitori. Think once i use all this up im going back to the pressed Thai form.

This charcoal is great... long lasting at high temperatures adding great flavor. But the box has few large pieces and way too many small pieces that fall through the charcoal grate.

I was looking for an alternative to standard charcoal for my Komodo Joe because I don't like the taste of charcoal and this is the best stuff in the world. It has the same characteristics cooking wise of charcoal but with absolutely no charcoal taste. Actually it cooks hotter and you use less of it to get the desired taste. I made chicken breasts and steaks on my Komodo Joe tonight using this and it seals in the taste just like they say and cooks it perfectly. If you don't want the charcoal taste I highly recommend this.

I purchased this to see if it makes a difference in my Blaze Kamado to maintain the high temperature for my steaks. Binchotan is known to burn hotter and with less smoke and this one did not disappoint. My grill thermometer reached close to 900 F creating the perfect sear and flavor profile. It is pricey compared to hard lump charcoal, but it makes up for it in longer burn time at higher temperatures, so it goes a long way. I am using this only on my high dollar cuts so far and it has not disappointed. Packaging is creative and convenient.
