This worked great. No mess. Easy to use and care for. When hot we placed on a cardboard egg carton and used the side of the carton to clean the tool before the next cut. Foam does smell be sure to have good ventilation. Good heat level and durable.

Intended to use for cutting foam for some chair cushions. Was not super dense foam - and this tool did not work as intended. Would sink into the edge then couldn’t make a clean cut. They ended up being very jagged and not clean sharp edges.

This makes it easy to cut foam board nice and straight. A lot better then using a knife or razor knife. Wish I would have bought sooner. You have to go slowly, and give it a rest , only use 30mins at a time then cool down. I have cut about 5 sheets cutting each sheet 2 to 3 times .so I cant say how long it will last. But so far so good.

I could not get this to cut through the foam cushion I was trying to cut in half. I ended up using a bread knife and it was much easier. Don’t waste your time with this unless you’re doing a very thin piece of foam. The foam cushion I tried to cut through was about 5 inches thick to give you perspective.

Unfortunately, this is not for me. Although, I understand safety requirements, the hot wire is just not hot enough to cut the foam.

I used this cutter pen to slice-up some large polystyrene block packaging for recycling. Parts of the block were approximately 4" thick and the pen cut through them easily and at a reasonable speed. The product is not particularly sturdy but certainly up to the task I used it on so would be perfectly fine for hobby work. It does produce fumes when cutting so use in well-ventilated space - I worked in my garage with the door fully open.
