This supposedly was supposed to fit my car. It did not even come close. Not made well at all, I’m just being very honest I’ve been working on cars for many years. I tried fitting this behind my balance shaft, and there was no way it would line up.

As other reviewers have said, it doesnt fit flush with the seal as it is crimped too much to fit over the lip of the engine case. i left it as i did not want to try to widen the crimp. The shaft seal does not fit into the pump opening even pounding which is hard if dling on the car because there is only 2" of clearance from shaft end to frame maming it impossible to hammer a socket. I agree with others that the OEM seal is the way to go. Also, contrary to some saying there are springs in the seal, the seal for the honda does not have a spring in them.

Counterbalance shaft seal popped out on my 2001 Honda Accord. Tore down the engine and pushed the seal back in, then put this clip on. It's nice that it's not a full circle around the shaft, because that means you don't have to take the pulley off to install it if you keep your original seal. Other reviews complained about the quality of this seal so I figured it was better to keep the original one. But I noticed that this clip didn't actually make contact with the aluminum lip around the seal-- there was a gap of a millimeter or two. So I just bent the bend in the clip just a little more using some pliers, and that made the fit snug the way I think it should be. Great retainer! Five stars for the retainer, minus one star for not having confidence in the quality of the seal...This was a difficult repair given my introductory level of experience with automobile repair. Feel free to reply to this review with any questions, I'm happy to share what I've learned!

This is a retrofit for the F-series engine. Honda made something like this as an aftermarket fix, and it's all the same. You can actually tell if it's installed before removing the timing cover if you know where to look. The left side of the metal part sticks out of the timing cover so that screw-hole can be attached on the engine block just to the left of the timing cover, midway down. The little gasket is actually for the dipstick tube. Rock! I'd heard warnings to replace that gasket bc it tends to go bad, and was happy when I found out it was included. The big gasket is the front balance shaft gasket. Mine was fine so I left the old one there, but it's good to have that included. The metal seal retainer is usually not needed if you maintain your engine correctly (check the PCV!!!!) but in cases where the pressure is allowed to build up inside the engine, the weakest link is that shaft seal and the pressure will blow it out. The retainer keeps this from happening. Good to have, and I'd put it on if it isn't there, but check your PCV anyway, mmmmkay??????
