I have been busy building a rock crawler course for our 1/24 scale RC crawlers, and this knife has been my goto cutter since I received it. It works great on 3/4" foam board. It's great for cutting, carving, making holes, etc. It heats up quick, but it does slow down a little on long cuts. You have to move the knife to a different spot to keep cutting at a fast pace, but that is to be expected. This might struggle a bit on and foam over 1-1/2" thick on long cuts, but I am sure it can cut anything as long as the knife is. It just may be a little slower than a traditional hot wire cutter. Would definitely buy again.Note: if you find your knife won't heat up, loosen the knurled nut at the base of the knife and push the knife in as you tighten the nut. I loosened one of mine to see if the tip is replaceable (doesn't seem to be) and it lost connection. After reseating the knife blade it works fine again. My point here - don't loosen the nut lol.

I bought this to use to cut foam between 1/2" thick to 2" thick to make window cornices. I didn't use it to cut designs. I am about half way through the job. It has done the job, but with some reservations. It definitely gets hot. If you pause it during the cutting you will get a hole burned in the cut immediately. Using for straight line cutting isn't easy - it's pretty much free hand. I used a piece of wood on the cut line to help keep it more even and this helped. I thought I could use the guard between the handle and the cutting tip to help alignment, but the brass fitting that holds the tip is in the way of this technique. All in all, it did the job satisfactorily. I preferred it to using a saw and the mess that makes. I thought I would get better as I gained experience, but I really didn't due to the heat and my inability to maintain a steady and even cutting technique. Be sure to wear a mask to prevent inhaling the fumes. I have only used one of the tools. I only assume the other one works at this point.

I buy guns. When I buy a gun I buy a case. When I buy a case I avoid pluck and pull foam like the plague. I like to cut solid foam to fit my weapons. Up until now I've been using long razors to do it. The issue is that with deep foam the blade can bend. I cut foam from the under side as I can draw an outline there and it won't be seen when I'm finished. When a long razor bends I get weird cuts on the top side of the foam that force me to make cosmetic adjustments. With this pen I was able to cut through the foam much faster and easier and with more accuracy. The slight sawing motion that is required does leave grooves, but I cleaned those up later.I ordered a package with two pens based on so many negative reviews. The pen didn't work. The pen stopped working. I got two so if one didn't work or failed then I would have a spare I could turn to. I never needed the spare. The first pen I used cut out the entire outline of my Kel-Tec SUB 2000 without a hitch. This was not styrofoam. It is spongy foam. I later used the same pen for cutting and piercing foam for fake plant arrangements. The pen really did heat up in 10 seconds and performed flawlessly. I'm happy to add these pens to my tool box and have no doubt I will be using them again. I'm very happy with the product and the end result after using it.

I purchased the Genround Foam cutter to make a custom Pelican case insert using Kaizen foam. I am happy with the product's quality. I found using this foam cutter easier and more accurate than using a knife, particularly when attempted to cut a partial depth hole. The cutter works best when buildup of melted foam is cleaned off the wand often. The kit comes with one brass wire bush of less than the highest quality. Plastic builds up in the brush and you need to clean it out of the brush at some point. I found a paint brush comb work well, but bristles of the included brush started to fall out. I picked up a pack of three small brass wire brushes at Home Depot for less than $4. They should last for me through quite a few more projects, but you should consider the brushes an expendable.I used only one wand for my entire project and it showed no change in performance. I can't testify to the longevity of the product, but mine hasn't shown any sign of giving out so far.

I had to carve a massive polypropylene high density closed cell foam block. While simple straight cuts where much faster, cleaner and way easier with (super sharp damascus steel) kitchen knifes, I needed something that could "cut around a corner". The hot wire foam cutter was a cheap option and it did work - very slowly. I could bend the cutter in the correct curvature and do something like an inch per minute, releasing a top of toxic fumes in the process. One of the two cutters did get loose due to the bend induced torque. The second one hold up fine. And the end result was as good as I hoped for. So no real complaints. It was not the perfect solution, but it did what I wanted it to do.

This tool makes cutting and shaping Styrofoam a breeze. Took less than two minutes to reach operating temperature, and sliced through a 3" thick slab of Styrofoam effortlessly. I tried it on both straight and intricate curved cuts and it performed perfectly on both and left a nice, smooth edge.If you're going to do a lot of cutting, I'd suggest working our of doors, or somewhere with plenty of ventilation, since you are essentially melting through the foam, and it does make some vapor and a little mild smoke.Be warned that this is NOT the tool for upholstery foam -- you'll just end up making a nasty smell and leaving a ragged edge. For that kind of work an electric knife is the way to go. But for Styrofoam, this is it.
